Have you heard of the latest Facebook event? As of this writing, 1.5 million people have signed up for storming Area 51 in Nevada. Conspiracy theorists believe that the government has kept UFOs and Extraterrestrial life at the location. The event is called, “Storm Area 51, They can’t stop all of us.” The basement dwellers believe that, like any great World of Warcraft strategy, if everyone swarms the place at once, they will be unstoppable.
There is another alien event north of Area 51 in the Boise area that needs no Facebook event invite. It’s called the great Elm Seed Bug (ESB) invasion! Just like leaving your parents basement, the elm bugs literally come out of the wood work once a year. The annual hatching of the infamous Elm Seed Bug coincides with the advent of summer. It is often confused with a box-elder bug or a false chinch bug. In fact, when they first revealed themselves in 2012 , no one knew what they were. I say 2012, but I’ve heard reports from people in Boise that they had been dealing with them since 2009.
No one really knows how or why the alien bugs decided to show up in the Treasure Valley first and then spread from here to the rest of the United States. What we do know is that they swarm Idaho homes by the hundreds. The ESB originated in Europe but like the pioneers of old, they longed for the open prairies of the west. Naturally when their leader, was picking a spot on the map he or she decided that Idaho (Of course Idaho is the best place anywhere) was the best place where they would put down American roots. And boy did they put down roots! We at Barrier Pest Control hardly look at a calendar anymore. All we do is wait for the calls to start pouring in. Ok, all tongue-in-cheek humor aside, we get hundreds of calls from late June to late July. The most important thing to note is that we are very confident in our ability to control the Elm seed bugs. The crazy part is how far the ESB’s have travelled from the Boise area. I’ve heard that they are in Texas now.
If the Elm Seed bugs really did create a Facebook event, it would definitely be called “Storm the Boise area, They Can’t Stop all of Us.” Here’s some smart advice to anyone considering storming Area 51: They can stop all of you. Also, you might get shot or imprisoned. Also some smart advice for Elm Seed Bugs trying to enter homes in the Treasure Valley: Don’t do it! Barrier Pest Control CAN stop you!
