Mike went to school at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He served an LDS mission to the small south Pacific island of Vanuatu, where he learned a form of pigeon English called Bislama. Upon returning, he attended Idaho State University and received a degree in Business Management. While at Pocatello, he met and married Annikan, who ironically hates Star Wars Movies! While completing his degree, Mike was recruited to sell pest control services during the summers in the South. After stints in Florida, Texas, & North Carolina, Mike became interested in and learned much about the pest control industry.
After high school, Kirk served two years as an LDS Missionary in Uruguay, South America. After his mission, Kirk went to college at Brigham Young University and married his high school sweetheart, Ashley.
In the spring of 2006, Mike & Annikan visited newly married Kirk & Ashley at college over a weekend. Almost jokingly, they said that they should start a pest control company. Talks became more serious, plans were made, and….Barrier Pest Control was born.
Since then, the Barrier family has grown—not only to include Mike & Annikan’s five children, or Kirk & Ashley’s 4 (and counting), but also to include all of Barrier’s wonderful technicians, salespeople, office staff, and their families.
Since the beginning, Mike & Kirk wanted to build a company that emphasized the customer experience above all else. To achieve that goal, they soon realized that the key to providing this experience was not about gimmicks or clever marketing ploys but simply taking care of people in simple ways.
These simple ways certainly aren’t national news: Always answering the phone, returning after-hour messages promptly, calling a day in advance to schedule an appointment, and always being on time are just a few examples. But by consistently delivering on these basic but often neglected items, Barrier has been appreciated over the years by thousands in the Boise area and hopes to do so for many more years.
Our Customers Love Us! See What They Are Saying.
I recently decided to use Barrier Lawn and Pest services as I became acquainted with their services through my place of work. The initial contact with Mike Dean was personable and informative. Scheduling of the service was also very accommodating as I was not given a 2-4 hour window as I had experienced with other companies. The technician arrived on time and reviewed the service with my wife before beginning. Upon completion, my wife was given the company's contact information in case we had any future questions. This experience was very pleasant and we would recommend Barrier's services to any friend or neighbor.View All Testimonials
This Month's Featured Pest
Cat Faced Spider
The Cat-Face Spider is an Orb Weaver, as their intricate webs suggest. The Cat-Face Spider tends to make its webs near lights and corners along the outside buildings. Full-grown females are large and have a combination of odd projections on the abdomen and dark indentation markings that some say resemble the ears and eyes of a cat. Despite their large size and bizarre appearance, Cat-Face Spiders are not venomous. It has been our experience that homes close to the Snake or Boise River have more issues with these feline-faced spiders.
As with most other spiders, regular pest control treatments and exclusion methods are essential to keeping the Cat-Face Spider off and out of your home.
