The weather is getting warmer and every living creature feels that familiar “stirring in our souls” that only Spring brings with it. Unfortunately, this includes common pests who desire to share their lives, and our homes, with us! For us at Barrier Pest Control, Spring is our jump-start to a very busy season in keeping all of our valued customers pest free!
One of the most common, and very important, questions we are asked…“Will my pets be safe?”
Lucky for our customers, the staff at Barrier Pest Control absolutely share your concern for all pets. We are all pet parents and in fact, Barrier Pest Control has a squirrel named Mr. Tink as our mascot! Now that is something you don’t see often in a pest control company! We value all furry friends, and take consideration for their safety when choosing the right treatments for our customers. No matter how careful we may be, there are still concerns and precautions taken any time there are pets in the home, whether inside or out. Let’s look at a few:
- Dogs – Our technicians love dogs! Most of them have one or more of their own so we know how important these 4 legged family members are! When placing mouse bait stations around the exterior of the home, our technicians are careful to place them in areas where your pup can’t access them. If they do, however, and decide to use them like the chew toy they aren’t, have no fear! It would take quite a large dog to be able to chew through and access any bait inside and even when consumed, it would need to have access to a number of them before it will have any ill effect.
- Cats – A common cat question we hear is, if the cat decides to dine on a dead mouse who had consumed the bait, will it make him sick? The answer is undoubtedly no. Your feline friend would, much like the dog, need to consume so many mice in a certain amount of time that it just isn’t a concern. Mice nibble on such a small amount, that the poison content wouldn’t nearly be enough to effect a cat of any size.
- Inside Birds such as parrots, parakeets & cockatiels – Many families within the Treasure Valley are avid bird lovers. We do take special precaution when treating inside a home that has pet birds. We simply cover the cage with a blanket or place them in a room that will not be treated. Similar with fish & fish tanks. We would also cover the tank or simply avoid spraying above the tank area to keep your fish friends swimming happily!
- Chickens – We do avoid granulating when there are free range chickens. Their little feathered eyeballs are keen at detecting any small looking “grains” and will happily consume what they think is feed left out by some generous human.
