It’s my favorite time of the year. Crisp air, colorful leaves, sweater weather, and pests coming inside…Wait, WHAT??!!? Awww, yes. With cooler weather comes unwanted visitors scrambling for warmth before the peak of winter hits. One little pest in particular is the spider.
They have a way of squeezing through crevices like overhead garage doors, windows and doors that children leave open, holes for plumbing and cables…and for those of us with wood burning stoves, they even get carried in on the firewood. What can you do to help prevent the unwelcome squatters from taking up refuge in your home? Here’s a few tips:
- Seal up any openings such as those used for plumbing pipes and tv/internet cables
- Close the vents around your home
- Install weather guard around all doors
- Check your window screens for rips and openings, and lastly…..

Here’s some Halloween fun for the family:
Those of us with young children may be familiar with the Halloween Poem, Five Little Pumpkins. But here at Barrier Pest Control, the Poem goes like this:
Five little spiders climbing up the wall.
First one said, “ Oh, my I’m going to fall!”
Second one said, “ There’s something in the air!”
Third one said, “ But we don’t care!!”
Fourth one said, “ It’s just Halloween Fun!”
Fifth one said, “ It’s Barrier Pest, RUN!”
OooOooooohhh went the wind, the truck came into sight,
And the five little spiders went away that night!
Your child can make their very own Halloween Spider as pictured above! You just need the following:
- White construction paper
- Black washable paint
- Black marker
- Orange marker
- Paper plate
Squeeze a portion of black paint on the paper plate. Have your child place their hand in the paint, so that it covers the entire hand and fingers. Next, place their hand on the center of the construction paper ( fingers pointing down). Press down. This is your spider! Wash hands and allow time for spider to dry. Then you can use your markers to draw spider webs up in the corners, and write, “Happy Halloween!”
