About Wolf Spiders in Nampa

IDENTIFICATION

Wolf spiders (family Lycosidae) are large, dark brown to gray ground hunters with a distinctive eye arrangement—two prominent large eyes in the middle row. Body length ranges from 1/2 inch to over 1 inch; females are larger. They build no webs. Females carry a round silk egg sac attached to their spinnerets until eggs hatch, then carry spiderlings on their backs. They are frequently mistaken for hobo spiders, but the absence of funnel webs and their larger size are reliable distinguishing features.

EGG SAC RISK

The critical wolf spider risk is not venom—it’s the egg sac. A female carrying an egg sac that is crushed, swatted, or vacuumed can release hundreds of spiderlings simultaneously across whatever surface she was on. This is not a worst-case scenario; it’s a predictable outcome when wolf spiders are handled without knowing what to look for. If you spot a large spider that may be carrying an egg sac, leave it in place and contact Barrier for controlled removal.

TREATMENT

Wolf spider control targets movement zones and entry points rather than fixed nesting sites. Barrier applies residual product to garage and basement floor perimeters, door thresholds, and exterior foundation edges; reduces the insect prey drawing spiders toward the structure; and addresses specific entry points driving intrusion. Exterior perimeter treatment is the most important component for Nampa properties adjacent to open land or agricultural borders.
