About House Spiders in Nampa

IDENTIFICATION

The common house spider (Parasteatoda tepidariorum) is small—female body length roughly 3/16 to 1/4 inch—tan to brown with mottled patterning on the abdomen. It builds messy, irregular cobwebs in elevated, undisturbed locations: garage ceiling corners, eave lines, window frames, and basement ceiling junctions. A single female produces multiple egg sacs per season, each containing 100–400 eggs, making populations self-sustaining without treatment that addresses the egg sac cycle.

WHY THEY PERSIST

House spiders reproduce continuously year-round indoors—unlike hobo or wolf spiders, there is no off-season. Populations rebuild from surviving egg sacs within weeks of any treatment that only addresses adult spiders. Cobwebs that recur rapidly in the same locations indicate an active spider with intact egg sacs that hasn’t been eliminated. Knocking down webs without treating the spider and removing egg sacs is a cycle that continues indefinitely.

TREATMENT

House spider control addresses both the population and the conditions sustaining it. Barrier removes existing webs and egg sacs from eaves, soffits, and lighting fixtures; applies residual product to establishment zones that remains active between visits; and treats the exterior perimeter to reduce the insect populations drawing spiders to the structure. Customers on Barrier’s quarterly pest plan see sustained reduction in cobweb accumulation that one-time treatments cannot maintain.
