BARRIER PEST CONTROL – A HISTORY

Barrier Pest Control owners Mike and Kirk Dean grew up on a farm in nearby Grand View, Idaho.  The youngest of 8 children, they enjoyed playing sports, the outdoors, family trips, and working together.  Always close, the two brothers were always together doing something.

Mike went to school at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.  He served an LDS mission to the small south pacific island of Vanuatu, where he learned a form of pigeon English called Bislama.  Upon returning, he attended Idaho State University and received a degree in Business Management.  While at Pocatello, he met and married Annikan, who ironically hates the Star Wars Movies!  While completing his degree, Mike was recruited to sell pest control services during the summers in the South.  After stints in Florida, Texas, & North Carolina, Mike became interested in and learned much about the pest control industry.

After high school, Kirk served 2 years as an LDS Missionary in Uruguay in South America.  After his mission, Kirk went to college at Brigham Young University, and married his high school sweetheart, Ashley.

In the spring of 2006, Mike & Annikan visited newly married Kirk & Ashley at college over a weekend.  Almost jokingly, they said that they should start a pest control company.  Talks became more serious, plans were made, and….Barrier Pest Control was born.

Since then, the Barrier family has grown—not only to include Mike & Annikan’s 5 children, or Kirk & Ashley’s 4 (and counting), but also to include all of Barrier’s wonderful technicians, salespeople, office staff, and their families.

Since the beginning, Mike & Kirk wanted to build a company that emphasized the customer experience above all else.  To achieve that goal, they soon realized that the key to providing this sort of an experience was not about gimmicks or clever marketing ploys, but by simply taking care of people in  simple ways.

These simple ways certainly aren’t national news:  Always answering the phone, returning after hour messages promptly, calling a day in advance to schedule an appointment, and always being on time are just a few examples.  But by consistently delivering on these basic but often neglected items, Barrier has been appreciated over the years by thousands in the Boise area, and hopes to do so for many more years to come.
