Water shut off dates 2013 & what to do about it – By Kirk Dean

Irrigation districts have caused lawn care panic recently by announcing water shut off dates much earlier than usual (early October is typically the norm).  Here are the shut off dates for the several irrigation districts around town:

Nampa/Meridian – September 5th

Caldwell – September 25th

Settlers Irrigation (Ada County) – September 5th

Kuna – August 21st

Like I said, these very early dates have been the cause of much concern, and rightly so, but all is not lost.  Remember, that as fall comes, your lawn needs much less water!  See our watering youtube video for precise information on how much and how often you need to water your lawn.  For example, from here to the end of October, you only need to water your lawn every 8-9 days, taking for granted that your watering times are correct (again, see our watering video for details).

For those of us who don’t have our irrigation systems hooked up to a well, we have to do it the old fashioned way – a hose!  Just take your hose that comes off your house and attach it to a sprinkler head (buy at home depot, D & B, etc.) and water your lawn.  Before I hear the tired sighs, remember you only need to do it every 8-9 days this time of year.

All will be lost if you simply stop watering your lawn.  This is way to early in the year to simply stop watering.  If you do, it will simply die, or come close to it.
